Abstract

In 2020 and 2024, we conducted field studies in the Republic of Bashkortostan to describe the vegetation cover of a group of karst and suffusion mires in the left-bank valley of the Belaya River, as well as to compare the mire flora and vegetation in suffusion and karst basins. Fifteen small mires were surveyed, 11 of which were located in karst sinkholes, four in suffusion basins. In terms of trophic status, five mires were classified as transitional, and 10 as fen. A total of 100 vascular plant species and 39 bryophyte species were recorded in the mires. We discovered populations of three species listed in the Red Data Book of the Republic of Bashkortostan (Eriophorum gracile Roth, Iris pseudacorus L., Utricularia minor L.) and a number of species that are rare in the forest-steppe of European Russia. The vegetation of the mires is highly diverse, with communities forming a very gradual gradient from near-aquatic eutrophic communities to meso-oligotrophic communities with boreal species of vascular plants and mosses.
